Motivation
Digitalization and the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) in the healthcare industry is absolutely necessary and unstoppable. We at the DAI-Labor have been working on the implementation in numerous projects for more than ten years. Digital documentation services, nutritional apps, pregnancy apps, exercise motivation and prevention are just some of our research results. Especially the exchange of information in home care, the socialization and mobility of people in need of care, or the networking of the environment are among our main research areas. Through AI, networking of the environment is possible and can be applied in many ways in the health care sector.
Goals
The DAI Laboratory aims to promote digitization in the health care system. Our goal is to support patients, people in need of care, nurses, doctors and family members. To take over everyday tasks, to optimize them and to reduce the workload. With our AI solutions we want to relieve the daily routine of the nursing staff and give back as much independence as possible to the patients. Our preventive measures are primarily designed to prevent the outbreak of an illness and promote health.
Networking the environment, whether at home or in a hospital, means that information is collected in the form of data, exchanged intelligently and forwarded. Devices are intelligently networked and can be controlled. Administrative tasks are taken over and information about air quality, temperature and energy consumption in the room is obtained in parallel. Networking in the room, in the building up to transport operations and mobility is possible and reasonable by AI.
Nursing staff and family members can be supported in their home environment, e.g. by a reminder app when taking medication. A transition to an electronic file of patients, which can be called up by hospitals or doctors as required, speeds up the treatment process and avoids the tedious collection, phoning around and writing down information about the patient. It also saves time by enabling the transition from voice notes that can be filed. In addition, notes, information, reminders, alarms can be entered on a dashboard, making the process visible to all involved.
The monitoring or rather care through telemedicine, which increases the quality of accurate information transmission, is another aspect of AI in healthcare. Equipping the nursing bed with intelligent control aids and services (e.g. light switching, telephony or networking with radiators) also offers bedridden people a certain degree of independence. Wearables, so-called clothing that collects data, can provide information on the health status of people and, in an emergency, directly alert nursing staff. They can also be helpful for diagnosis. All these aspects are part of AI in health care and our work in the “Health” application center
