Programming of Multiagent Applications with JIAC

Abstract

Given the complexity of software development, it is only natural that industrial players are doubtful about new development paradigms and technologies and rather stick to well-established mechanisms. This phenomenon may explain why there are very few serious applications of agent technology in industrial software development processes. Furthermore, most available agent frameworks were developed to answer research questions and not for industrial appliances. Thus, it is difficult for industrial stakeholders to see the benefit of using agent technology. In this chapter, we show how essential agent-concepts can be implemented in compliance with industrial requirements. For this purpose we present the latest version of the Java-based Intelligent Agent Componentware.
