A Simple but Effective Approach to Game-based Mobile Learning

Abstract

Mobile phones are an integral part of most people’s lives. In particular the younger generation uses short messages as an accompanying communication form. We are investigating practical use cases for utilising rather simple mobile devices to help students at learning tasks. In this paper, we argue for mobile gaming as an appropriate instrument for mobile learning issues. Competition and comparison to other students motivate and inspire them to achieve better learning results. We explain our approach to creative quizzing in mobile learning, wherein the students play an active part both in creating and solving quizzes in a motivating competing context.
